Commissions

The Session of Hope Church works in a Commission style rather than Traditional Committees. This style enables the sub-groups under each Commission to do their work with more autonomy, and report back to Session at its monthly meetings. The commissions are:

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE COMMISSION

The Congregational Life Commission is made up of 5 sub-Committees: Worship, Prayer, Fellowship, Care and Visitation, and Membership. These Committees are made up of Elders and congregation members, and meet periodically throughout the year, the frequency of meetings depending on need.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Mission Statement: The main purpose of this commission shall be to lead and encourage each and every member to actively seek a closer relationship with the Lord, and in turn, as a corporate body, to reach out to others with the love and compassion that that relationship produces.

The responsibilities of this commission shall be:

  • To provide for the worship of the people of God, including the preaching of the Word, the sharing of the Sacraments, and for the music program, in keeping with the principles in the Directory for Worship….whether this be on Sunday morning, or additionally on another day or time, depending on the needs of the congregation or community. (W-3.5101)
  • To receive members into the church upon profession of faith, upon reaffirmation of faith in Jesus Christ, or upon satisfactory certification of transfer of church membership, to provide classes for the purpose of education and fellowship between prospective and current members, and to provide the Session a time to meet with these prospective members and accept them into the family of Hope Presbyterian Church.
  • To provide for spiritual growth of members through sharing in activities of fellowship and mutual support.
  • To provide for the gathering of all God's people for prayer - whether regularly scheduled or sporadic - in any of a variety of forms (midweek evening prayer service, prayer breakfast or luncheon, intercessory fellowships, covenant groups. Special days and occasions in the life of the local community, the nation, and the ecumenical Church may draw people together for services of prayer).
  • To provide for special services of worship, such as Christian marriage, ordination and installation, baptism and membership, confirming and commissioning, welcoming to the Lord's Table, healing and wholeness, and passing from death into life eternal.
  • To provide a vehicle for the care of one another in the family of God, both those able to attend the gathering together in public worship, and those who for whatever reason must have the church come to them in visitation.

DISICPLESHIP COMMISSION

Mission Statement: Our mission is "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Eph 4:12-13), through our various Adult, Youth, Children, Families, Small Groups, and Mission ministries.

The responsibilities of this commission shall be:

  • Provide opportunities for evangelism to be learned and practiced in and by the church, that members may be better equipped to articulate their faith, to witness in word and deed to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and to invite persons into a new life in Christ.
  • Lead the congregation in participation in the mission of the whole Church in the world.
  • Provide for the growth of its members and for their equipment for ministry through educational programs including the church school, and opportunities for witness and service in the world.

OPERATIONS COMMISSION

There are different kinds of gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve but the same Lord to serve. And there are different ways that God works through people but the same God. God works in all of us in everything we do. (1 Corinthians 12:1-4)

Mission Statement: The operations commission is dedicated to ensure that we are good stewards of the gifts we have received from God. Our ministry teams (Property, Stewardship, Counting and Finance) work together to maintain the buildings and grounds teach our congregation about the importance of good stewardship and keep accurate records of the financial status of Hope Church.

The responsibilities of this commission shall be:

  • Schedule volunteers for sexton and closer to keep the church clean; perform preventative and routine maintenance of both the church and manse; upkeep the grounds and call in professional repairmen when needed.
  • In conjunction with the pastor continue to teach the congregation about their opportunity for giving, what it means to be good stewards of God's gifts to them; not just their treasure but also their time and talent and to give back to God a part of what he has given them in such abundance.
  • Accurately count and record the offering and report weekly to the treasurer and quarterly to each giver the status of their offering.
  • Along with the treasurer maintains all financial records of, receive and pay all bills, issues monthly reports and submit an annual budget to session for approval and advises the session on our financial status.
